If you can't fix it, feature it!

On Monday, Oliver woke up with serious bed-head.  I mean, sort of a mo-hawk that had already been slept on.  And we were running late and he had slept in his (almost!) clean shirt he'd worn the night before, since we were out a bit later than normal.  And I was rushing, because I had a final paper due that morning and had to get Ollie to his school by 8:30.

Luckily, our theatre professor had given us a nugget of wisdom the previous week.  He'd had difficulty figuring out what to do with all the clunky asides in the play "Is He Dead?"  Since he couldn't fix the problem, he decided to feature it, make a positive out of a negative.  In the play, it worked, so I figured I'd apply this philosophy to my son's hair situation.

"Oliver, I'm going to teach a life lesson today."

"Huh?"

"If  you can't fix something feature it!"

And I proceeded to slather on hair gel, making his hair super spiky all over.  It was....interesting.

But, it was time to go, we were already late, so off to school we went!

When I got there, a lady with an awful lot of camera equipment was walking in the door.  And also, a lot of the girls seemed even more ruffly than usual and were wearing spectacular Christmas bows in their hair.

That's funny, I thought.

Then it struck me.   It was picture day.  Christmas picture day.

Who schedules picture day on a MONDAY!?   Bad idea, people, bad idea.

At least his shirt was red.  Even if it was a little rumpled.

I think they took pity and had him put the present over his head to cover up his hair.
I think it turned out pretty cute!
